Summary

The combustion engine is the major automotive drive concept and one that will continue to play a dominating role in the next few years. Its efficiency will increase significantly thanks to engine downsizing, optimized injection systems and turbo charging even for spark ignition engines. However new technologies will gradually enhance existing drive concepts. Increasingly, the conventional drive train will be electrified. Depending on application requirements, stop-start technology as well as full-hybrids and plug-in-hybrids will make inroads. Electric vehicles will establish themselves first in city driving, where operating range is of secondary importance. Further development of the energy storage device is, however, the crucial factor in paving the way to a wider scope of application.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
