Summary

Daimler Trucks is, with the new 6-cylinder inline engines OM470 and OM471, setting a new benchmark not only in terms of fuel consumption, performance and emission compliance but also due to the use of globally harmonized standards for the development of a new engine platform. The efficiencies and expertise of the global development network had to be drawn on in order to be able to master such a development activity in light of all the cost and shared part requirements. A global platform can only be successful with customers where the individual development locations are located close to the markets. By using the network, the strengths of the local sites can be optimally used, specific requirements taken into account accordingly and technologies successfully combined. At the same time, a joint platform allows the optimal use of the production network. The flexibility and synergy achieved this way ensures efficient use of the resources and thus improved economic efficiency.
