Summary

Nissan and Jatco have developed a new 7-speed AT, which can reduce CO2 emissions by 7% compared to the existing 5-speed AT. With this new transmission both drivability and fuel economy are maximized trough highly efficient hardware and new software algorithms. This hardware and software cooperation includes friction minimization, lock-up area expansion and optimum gear position selection. This paper addresses several new features used in the AT and its near future derivative. As to the hardware; friction was minimized by efficient design of each component combined with a newly developed transmission fluid. As to the software, new gear shift control logic and electric acceleration pedal called “ECO Pedal” which is controlled harmonically with the gear shift schedule optimizes drivability and fuel economy. Finally, the derivative for an HEV version is discussed.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
