Summary

On introducing the EU5 engines based on the modular diesel system, further internal engine measures and the integration of DeNOx exhaust gas aftertreatment for the EU6 engines are presented as the next step. The modular basis for the additional engine measures was already established, and also facilitates an alternative application of the NOx storage catalyst or SCR technology. With the help of the components described below, a further reduction in NOx and CO2 emissions can be implemented in a number of areas of engine operation in respect of future requirements. In order to master the increased complexity of engine functions, Volkswagen has developed a completely new software package.
