Summary

The competition between Diesel and Gasoline Engines has not only resulted in an impressive progress of their individual technologies, but also revealed a number of potential synergies: Turbocharging, Direct Injection, external cooled EGR, lean exhaust aftertreatment and particulate filter originated rather with the Diesel Engine, but became already essential components of modern Gasoline Engines. In the opposite direction, primarily the topics variable valve trains and catalyst heating strategies take the path from Gasoline to Diesel engines. The increased differentiation between approaches focused mainly on efficiency and extreme high performance concepts is noted both with Diesel and Gasoline engines. To combine both properties, in both cases the combination of variable compression with variable valve train is required.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
