Summary

Powerful, efficient and refined - Opel and GM are introducing a generation of newly designed small displacement gasoline engines. Ranging in displacement from 1.0 to 1.5 liters, these three and four- cylinder engines are not only climate-friendly; the all-aluminum power units also set a new benchmark in refinement. The development of extremely low sound and vibration levels as well as best in class refinement were among the primary development targets for both turbocharged and naturally aspirated variants. The excellent refinement is due to a number of measures, such as the use of a balance shaft on the three-cylinder turbo, a silent inverted-tooth chain on all engines, and the structural isolation of the fuel injectors on the direct injection versions.
