Summary
The development of diesel engines during the last 20 years is marked by big progress in the development of fuel injection systems. Emissions and fuel consumption has been reduced significantly with at the same time excellent drivability and low noise levels. With this characteristics and including cost aspects, the diesel engine is benchmark for reaching futures CO2 targets.
For 10 years, the Bosch Common Rail system for passenger cars is now available in the market. From the start of market introduction until today, Bosch permanently improved the system. In 2007, a 2000 bar common rail system is introduced into the market. Due to its piezo technology, this system is characterized by a highly flexible and high precision injection of diesel fuel at all operating points. Together with the new developed generation of high pressure pumps with best hydraulic efficiency, this fuel injection system supports at best engine approaches to reach lowest emission standards in USA as well as further reduction of CO2.
In the presentation, the overall system and the key components and –functions will be shown as well as measures for pressure increase, multiple injection with minimized intervals and improving of hydraulic efficiency.
As a perspective we show how Bosch will further develop the common rail injection technology to make diesel a big success story in Europe, America as well as in Asia.
