Summary
Traction batteries must meet a variety of challenging requirements with respect to cost, lifetime, functionality, safety, and quality. High standards of safety and reliability must be met from the beginning on, as they have a high impact on the market acceptance of electric vehicles. Cost and functionality will improve over time. This article discusses requirements for traction batteries, focusing in particular on two issues: safety and design for lifetime requirements.
