Summary

Efficient use of energy is the dominant theme for the future of the automobile industry, and will become even more important as resources continue to become scarcer. Although we are pressing ahead with detail technological innovations, they are not the only solutions to sustained mobility. We must at the same time enlarge our view of the situation to include comprehensive, all-embracing approaches. How much energy do various sources supply? How high are our needs? How can we obtain and distribute energy as efficiently as possible? The answers to these questions define humanity’s overall scope for action from which decisive development perspectives for the automobile industry can be derived.
