Summary
Passenger vehicles with a high demand on driving comfort use drivetrain damping against disturbing noise excitation. The damping at first is achieved by tuning mechanical components. On heavier vehicle more powerful engines are implemented. At severe acceleration big reaction forces do occure. With a comfortable drivetrain design and the resulting elasticity result in huge vehicle forces. Suddenly released excitation will be sensed very unpleasant by a customer. Simulation provides the eleastocinematic reaction of drivetrain in the vehicle. Proven by measurement results, mechanical components will be designed corresponding to the damping demands. With the mechanical damping further improvements must be done by calibration of the electronic control unit. The best compromise between drive comfort and agility will be achieved. In this paper we will present particularly how the load alternation jolt will be avoided by calibration of the electronic control unit of four-wheel-driven vehicles at MAGNA STEYR. An optimum of improved comfort parallel to a win on agility will be the result.
