Summary
An effective and sustainable reduction of CO2 emissions in road traffic can be achieved if electric power is used as an energy source alongside conventional fuels derived from fossil resources. This necessitates the development of Battery Electric Vehicles or Plug-in Hybrids. Due to the storage technology for electric energy on board of such vehicles, the automobile industry is faced with new challenges, for example in reducing the costs. Furthermore, driving ranges of battery systems have to be optimised in comparison to the energetic potential of a full petrol tank. However, the storage technology for electric energy on board such vehicles is currently still expensive and risky, and the energy density achievable is low compared with that of a petrol tank. This paper describes through the example of the Battery Electric Vehicle e-up! how a spectrum of electrified powertrains can be offered for different vehicle classes based on a modular matrix of electric and hybrid components.
Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
Members of the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers have access to all lectures of the International Vienna Motor Symposia.
