Summary

Spatial computing refers to the 3D interaction of machines, humans and objects in the environment in which they operate. Simplified, spatial computing combines reality with a digital landscape and has the potential to fundamentally change the way in which objects and people interact with the virtual space. Spatial computing encompasses the areas of virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality.

Spatial computing will change the way the automotive industry carries out development and tests. In this presentation, various applications developed as part of the InVADE project will be explained using the example of a production BEV and a plug-in hybrid. The aim of the project is the systematic testing of automated driving functions on a specially developed test bench concept using spatial computing approaches.

Dynamic route guidance systems, which are gaining relevance with the increasing spread of electric vehicles with regard to range prediction and the associated charging navigation strategies, will be discussed. Another topic is the validation of automated driving functions based on the Apollo platform for autonomous driving, which is run on the Xpack4 real-time computer in combination with the open integration and test platform CarMaker.

In addition, advanced ADAS safety tests based on camera and GNSS will be explained and a realistic restbus simulation for all control units including EPS, steer angle and airbag will be described. Finally, the execution of highly dynamic tests up to the limits of vehicle stability (ABS, ESP, ASC) will be explained.
