Summary

The Valeo Electric Supercharger allows improved engine transient behavior and fuel consumption as well as lower NOx emissions. The extra electric boosting enables an improvement in the air loop response time by an accelerated boost pressure build-up in both diesel and gasoline engines. This improved dynamic behavior can be converted into fuel consumption through extreme engine downsizing or/and downspeeding. Extreme downsizing and very long transmission gear ratios degrade vehicle driveability. The electric supercharger is a key enabler to overcome this issue and even provide far better dynamics. On Diesel engines, control of the NOx emissions and the EGR system in transient operation will have to be addressed particularly with the new driving cycle regulation (WLTC, RDE). The boosting of the air loop in combination with the EGR in transient operation improves NOx emissions while maintaining driveability.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
