Summary

The success of engine developments in the course of the last years has proofed one point very strongly, namely, that the days of the reciprocating engine are anything but bygone and that even more, significant reductions in fuel consumption and emissions can be achieved. However, when looking closely at customer operation, it becomes clear that the driver has not yet implemented all the potential at hand. Therefore, it will be even more important for the future to harmonize the drive-line with the entire system. Transmission systems in different design provide an essential contribution to the optimization of the drive-line. Thanks to expanded transmission ratios and automated shifting at increased vehicle performance and an augmented comfort level, new transmission systems also improve fuel consumption behavior. At a very high level of efficiency, the existing systems need to be improved and optimized hand in hand with engine development and with reference to the characteristics discussed so that the ambitious targets in particular in the fields of fuel consumption reduction can be met via economic solutions.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
