Summary
In some Euro IV commercial vehicle applications as well as in larger quantities as a retrofit solution for diesel cars partial flow filters are already in the market. A stage IV non-road application on an engine with mechanical fuel injection has shown that with an appropriately optimized partial flow sintered metal filter (pSMF®) significantly higher PM reduction rates are possible than in the first-mentioned applications with a maintenance free particulate reduction system. After a short introduction to the basics of partial flow particulate filters this paper describes the possibilities to achieve significantly increased PN reduction. With the achieved PN reduction level of about 75% to 85 % of this development it seems feasible to achieve the particle number limit for emerging non-road stage V limit with a further developed partial flow sintered metal filter.
Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
