Summary

With the stringent of fuel consumption and emission regulations, the electrification of powertrains has become an important direction, which has also led to the diversification of the powertrain architecture. Based on the global strategic needs, Great Wall Motor Company has developed a new generation of 1.5L 4-cylinder EB modular gasoline engine platform to meet the needs of different electrification powertrains. The EB gasoline platform has the same main structure to achieve different power configurations, while meeting the requirements from micro-hybrid to plug-in hybrid. The traditional ICE version of EB modular platform adopts the second generation CVVL (Continuous Variable Valve Lift) technology developed by Great Wall Motors independently, the number of the second generation CVVL parts reduces 48% compared with the former, as a result, the frictional resistance reduces 38%. The maximum thermal efficiency can reach 38% with Miller cycle, 980°C VGT, low friction design and optimization of combustion system. The hybrid version adopts low pressure EGR technology to reduce knock tendency, as a result, the higher compression ratio is used to get 42% maximum thermal efficiency which is very helpful to improvement of fuel consumption of HEV. The EB engine platform will be equipped in small and medium-sized SUV of Great Wall Motor Company in the future to meet the regulation before 2025.
