Summary

A 2.0l high-performance engine, which will set new benchmarks in its class in terms of performance and efficiency, was developed for the new AMG A-Class "A 45 AMG". The new engine was designed based on the already known M270 4-cylinder engine, with transverse installation, from the Mercedes BlueDIRECT family. The intake and exhaust side gas cycle systems had to be fully redeveloped in addition to extensive modifications to the basic engine, e.g. the redesign of the crankcase and cooling circuit. Hence, the main challenge lay in obtaining the max. dethrottling of the raw and clean air intake as well as the exhaust system without having to implement complex changes in the given vehicle package. This was the prerequisite for an optimal position of the center of combustion and a previously unachieved response behavior for series-production engines for this specific output and displacement size.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
