Summary
Climate change and surging oil prices, which have precipitated a new energy crisis, have drawn global attention to sustainability issues. To reduce the industry’s dependence on fossil fuels, automotive manufacturers have been seeking all possible solutions. Recently, Hyundai-Kia Motor has announced the launch of Blue Drive as a new eco-friendly powertrain brand that will bring a family of green Blue Drive products to the market, and establish Hyundai-Kia as an environmental leader. With Blue Drive products and technologies, Hyundai-Kia Motor will be able to achieve a fleet average of 35 miles per gallon by 2015, 5 years ahead of US government’s deadline while meeting EU’s 130g/km emission regulation in 2012.
