Summary
The original Toyota Hybrid System (THS) was first installed in the Prius and was introduced in 1997 as the world’s first mass-produced hybrid passenger car. THS has been continuously improved and THS-II (marketed as Hybrid Synergy Drive [HSD]) was installed in the new larger Prius in 2003, in the two SUVs (Lexus RX400h and Toyota Highlander Hybrid) in 2005 and in the front-engine rear-wheel (FR) drive passenger car (Lexus GS450h) in 2006. These vehicles have shown outstanding superiority in fuel efficiency, emission reduction and power performance that could not be achieved by any conventional gasoline engine vehicle.
