Summary

Gasoline engine passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will remain a significant contributor to future mobility. Their CO2 emissions can be reduced through increased engine brake thermal efficiency, hybridization, and the use of renewable fuels for well-to-wheel CO2 neutrality. Also, the circular economy model already is applied to gasoline powertrains, making them a highly attractive future option. Therefore, Bosch will continue developing solutions for gasoline engine powertrains.

A key focus is avoiding fuel enrichment at high loads, particularly challenging for highspecific-power engines. Another major trend involves high-efficiency dedicated hybrid engines with very high compression ratios. Bosch addresses this with passive pre-chamber spark plug technology, which increases combustion speed and reduces knock. This enables stoichiometric operation at high engine loads and improved efficiency, for example, through elevated compression ratios.
