Summary

The transportation sector is one of the key focus areas when discussing climate change and the emission of greenhouse gases. Thus, the introduction of zero-emission vehicles plays a crucial role and is a key lever for reaching global and European climate goals. Heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) are increasingly coming into focus due to a sharp increase in freight transport and the resulting rise in CO2 emissions. Specifically, the EU established challenging targets for the heavy-duty transport sector in 2019, which become increasingly stricter over time. Non-compliance with these targets could result in massive fines for OEMs.

The aim is to analyze the possible technologies for transforming the HDV sector, their feasibility, and some of the latest advances in these development areas. Additionally, the cost considerations and the expected challenges for end customers are to be discussed, since they impact the success or failure of the adoption of zero-emission technologies through their purchasing behavior, and thus the achievement of CO2 reduction goals.

As an expert in engineering solutions, Akkodis also presents an overview of charging and refueling solutions that enable and facilitate the adoption of zero-emission vehicles, targeting one of the main concerns of end customers, such as range anxiety.
