Summary

The automotive industry is undergoing fundamental change. Intelligent cooperation projects have long been the order of the day for OEMs – and will be an absolute must in the future in order to secure the long-term success of the company. This presentation will focus on how the automotive supplier Magna Steyr is already meeting these challenges today. Both the importance and the necessity of cooperation between OEMs, new-entrants, engineering services providers and vehicle contract manufacturers will be highlighted and examined in more detail using successful examples of cooperation from Magna Steyr. Finally, conclusions for the future will be drawn from the perspective of the automotive supplier.
The pressure on automotive manufacturers is currently enormous: on the one hand, the automotive mega-trends (CASE) require high investments in new technologies, and on the other hand, the cost pressure on automobile manufacturers is increasing due to political and regulatory requirements. In addition, stagnating sales figures and low margins for electric vehicles are contributing to the fact that for many vehicle concepts, stand-alone development and production is no longer profitable for automotive manufacturers.
Cooperation can be a decisive solution approach here. The possibilities are manifold and include not only development cooperation but also cooperation in various fields such as autonomous driving, connectivity, mobility services, charging infrastructure, powertrain, software, platform sharing and vehicle manufacturing. Cooperation can range from development partnerships to the joint use of platforms and architectures and the establishment of joint enterprises to share investment costs and technological know-how. Regardless of whether traditional OEM or new entrant in the automotive industry, cooperation partnerships are a decisive key to future success.
