Summary

Within the context of the development of future low emissions vehicles and their control and diagnosis systems under evertightening time and cost restrictions, there is a requirement for an integrated set of tools and techniques for the representation of a virtual vehicle that includes control and calibration considerations. This enables the vehicle configuration and details of components to be investigated at an early stage of the development process, with a focus on emissions, fuel consumption and driveability performance against targets over legislated and customerrelevant drive cycles.

This process is described using a current example of the development of a phenomenological approach to the prediction of fouling in EGR coolers on the basis of experimental data. In this example, the planning and interpretation of the tests and the generation of the phenomenological model were all carried out using a methodbased procedure.

The presented set of tools and techniques is used to support projects with a high level of innovation through the early verification of design concepts, and thus avoids costintensive changes and complex calibration iterations in the runup to start of production.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
