Summary
The rollout of the second generation of a comprehensive modular engine family of the BMW Group started in 2017 with the 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder engines. This generation of engines will now be completed with the introduction of the new 6-cylinder diesel engine in the 30d and 40d positions as of 2020.
The aim of the new 6-cylinder diesel engines with 48V system was - in addition to meeting future emission and legal requirements - the further reduction of fuel consumption and improvement of dynamics, ride comfort and acoustics.
The engineering used to achieve the target values is described in the presentation and the functional results for driving performance, consumption and emissions are shown.
Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
