Summary

With the new 3rd generation of the OM471, Daimler Truck is presenting the latest version of its most sold global engine for heavy-duty trucks. Together with the improved GATS2.0 Performance aftertreatment system, this powertrain is designed to improve in regards of fuel efficiency, emission reduction and reliability.

This goal is achieved by a totally redesigned engine with a new combustion layout. The triple front combustion was introduced with significant changes to the main components such as an advanced piston design, a new injector layout with increase of hydraulic flow and a high swirl level cylinder head design. Furthermore, the gas exchange was improved and to meet best the different customer demands, two new turbocharger were design. Within this separated turbo charger strategy, one variant was dedicated designed to fully focus on best total cost of ownership for typical long-haul applications while the second turbo charger variant targets maximum power output and a broad operating range. The 3rd generation engine is topped with friction reduction measures such as an integrated oil pressure control valve as well as a new low viscosity engine oil to reduce frictional losses and to improve the fuel efficiency. With the new aftertreatment system combined with a new control and operation strategy, this powertrain is ready for the most stringent global emission legislations such as EuroVIe over entire product lifetime.

The new 3rd generation of the OM471 is ready to push Daimler Trucks TCO to the next level, for global rollout and future proven through certification with CO2-neutral EN 15940 XtL fuel.
