Summary

Alongside the consistent development of a sustainable electrification strategy, the intensive enhancement of conventional combustion engines is naturally also an indispensable factor for compliance with the future worldwide legal requirements as well as for any brand to retain its competitiveness. Whereas turbocharging and direct fuel injection have been part of the standard equipment in diesel engines for quite some time, these technologies have only come through in the case of the gasoline engine in the last few years. This has meant that the requirements and design criteria for diesel and gasoline engines have converged to a great extent.
