Summary
The paper shows the recent development of the Diesel passenger car market in North America and General Motors perspective about being a part of this market. It describes the challenges of the market requirements and the expectations of the North American customers with respect to Diesel engines. Additionally, different requirements and expectations compared to the European customers is an area of focus. The technical integration of a Diesel engine developed for the European market into an existing North American car is explained. The paper describes the changes to the engine which were required to fulfill the tough emissions and OBDII regulations.
