Summary
As vehicles increasingly rely on software for their core functions, the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) paradigm faces growing complexity in managing safety, security, and system performance. This study introduces TTTech Auto's 4SDV (Systems, Safety, Security, and Software-Defined Vehicle) concept, addressing these challenges by integrating safety and security measures system-wide from the outset. Unlike traditional SDV architectures, where software operates independently, 4SDV emphasizes a unified approach that abstracts and tightly integrates hardware, software, and communication protocols to ensure continuous system updates without compromising security. By utilizing the 4SDV framework, we can enable real-time adaptive functionalities for vehicles, such as predictive maintenance, autonomous driving support, and over-the-air updates, while ensuring that safety and security are maintained at all times. The approach leverages open standards such as AUTOSAR and POSIX, combined with real-time communication systems that manage both event-driven and time-triggered processes using a correct-by-design methodology. This method allows 4SDV to control system complexity and ensure that the vehicle remains resilient to faults. This study highlights the importance of a holistic approach in the design of software-defined vehicles, paving the way for safer, more reliable, and adaptable vehicles in the future. By focusing on system integration from the start, 4SDV offers a more robust solution to the challenges of modern automotive systems.
