Summary
In-wheel motors are emerging as a cornerstone of next-generation mobility, offering not only enhanced vehicle performance and expanded cabin space but also advanced motion control through independent wheel management. Recognizing this potential, Astemo is leveraging its deep expertise in large-scale motor production to accelerate the practical deployment of in-wheel systems through proprietary innovations.
One breakthrough is an oil-immersed direct-drive design that uses low-viscosity fluid to achieve superior cooling while minimizing frictional losses at naturally low rotational speeds. This technology has already demonstrated outputs exceeding 100 kW with a 19-inch wheel, underscoring its suitability for large electric vehicles.
For smaller vehicles, where packaging constraints and cost sensitivity make oil cooling less feasible, Astemo has pioneered a 12-inch direct-drive system with a novel air-cooling architecture. By harnessing motor rotation and a rotary-fin structure encompassing the entire outer surface, the system significantly improves heat dissipation and achieves a continuous output of 5.5 kW per wheel.
At this symposium, we will showcase Astemo’s latest advances and diverse in-wheel motor portfolio, designed to enable efficient, scalable solutions for passenger vehicles while delivering a seamless and comfortable mobility experience.
