Summary

The transformation towards sustainability in the mobility sector does not stop at the two- wheeler industry. The trend towards the electrification of the drive train and the use of CO2- neutral fuels, in addition to meeting the future stricter emission requirements (especially CO2 and NVH), will be an important step towards making the "Powered Two Wheelers" (PTW) more positive in the public eye.

With the production launch of the "KTM Freeride" in 2014, KTM already set an exclamation point for purely battery-powered motorcycles in the off-road segment up to 11 kW; the e- vehicle portfolio in the lower performance sector is extended by performance-oriented youth models.

In 2023, another chapter in the success of KTM's electric drive will be opened: with the series launch of the "Low Voltage Free Ride" (LVFR), a completely newly developed 48V drive train will be used for the first time, which, in addition to the advantages of the low- voltage concept, above all meets the demands for performance and power-to-weight ratio corresponding to the KTM/Husquarna/GasGas brands, and at the same time has an attractive range.

This is made possible by careful systems engineering in the early concept phase as well as meticulous detailed optimization of the drive train components e-motor, transmission, power electronics, battery, the respective associated management systems and their integration into the overall vehicle concept.

In addition to the motivation and objectives for the LVFR, the paper describes these development steps and the drive train components in detail and presents the final driving results and experiences in the vehicle.

The lecture will be rounded off by an outlook on the di erse further use of this modular 48V drive train in the portfolio of the Pierer Mobility Group.
