Summary

Toyota Motor Corporation has been advancing development under its Multi-pathway strategy to achieve carbon neutrality. For this project, the BEV powertrain installed in the bZ4X has been completely redesigned, contributing to significant improvements in the following vehicle performance attributes.

1. Expanded range of vehicle applications
By increasing the output of both the front and rear eAxles, the range of vehicle applications has been significantly expanded compared with the previous BEV powertrain system, enabling application across a wide performance band from C-segment SUVs to D-segment sedans.

2. Extended driving range
A 40% reduction in eAxle losses (in urban driving), together with an increase in battery-pack capacity, has resulted in a 10% improvement in the WLTP driving range compared to the previous model.

3. Improved charging performance
Improvements to the ESU cooling performance and enhancements to the battery thermal-management circuit have contributed to better charging performance. In particular, by adopting a battery preconditioning function, charging time in low-temperature environments has been improved to a top-class level compared with competitors.

4. Enhanced acceleration performance
By increasing the output of both the front and rear eAxles, the inherent strong acceleration characteristics of BEVs have been further enhanced.
