Summary

Honda has defined the achievement of climate neutrality by 2050 as a central corporate objective. For a globally operating company with a diverse product portfolio, this target represents a substantial challenge, as a narrow focus on energy converters alone is insufficient. Instead, carbon‑neutrality can only be achieved by considering the entire energy chain, including customer usage patterns and regional energy‑system characteristics. To address this complexity, Honda has developed a “3‑Cycle Approach” comprising intelligent and highly efficient technologies and services that maximize renewable energy utilization and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The first level focuses on battery electric products supported by intelligent energy management solutions to increase renewable energy penetration and ensure grid stability. The second level involves the production of green hydrogen as a storable and transportable
energy carrier, with efficiency gains achieved through the use of waste heat and optimized operating strategies. The third level addresses applications in which renewable liquid fuels remain indispensable due to operational or regional constraints.

This paper outlines Honda’s systematic approach to coupling the mobility and energy sectors. By integrating electrification, hydrogen technologies, and carbon‑neutral fuels, Honda contributes to the development of a sustainable and resilient energy and mobility ecosystem.
