Summary

For several years Renault has been engaged in a comprehensive approach of the environmental impact of cars offered to the public. The “Eco2” label for “ecological and economical” means that the selection of technologies implemented in the powertrain and in the vehicle in order to reduce CO2 emission and to comply with environmental regulations is made at the most acceptable cost for the customer. This was illustrated by the Logan Eco2 presented at the 2007 Bibendum Challenge which achieved a better CO2 performance than gasoline hybrids by using an optimized Diesel powertrain and a few low cost features. Moreover Eco2 characterizes non only a CO2 emission threshold for car usage but also criteria for car manufacturing and recycling according to a well-monitored life cycle analysis...
