Summary

The e-mobility market is already in the stage for huge production volume increase year by year. Consequently, the need for materials like cooper, magnets, semiconductors and even metal sheets is tremendous which may even risk the transition towards the green mobility. Therefore, AVL has further developed the second generation of the high-speed e-axle and strictly followed the idea that power density as the enabler to reduce material mass to its optimum. This starts as the main component with the e-motor and is followed in the same idea on the inverter, transmission, and overall integration concept. The CO2 equivalent footprint over the application lifetime is the major decision criteria when comparing the different technical solutions. AVL has developed the high speed e-axle in the new second generation with high power density of > 4,3kW/kg. The shown configuration is targeted for high performance applications and provides torque vectoring capability due to two independent wheel torque paths, left and right.
