Summary

The M177 Evo represents the latest evolution of the M177 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, setting new benchmarks in efficiency and emission reduction as a best-in-class powertrain in the top-end segment. Applied across Mercedes, Maybach, and AMG vehicles, it combines premium performance with state-of-the-art technology.

With future emissions, particularly Euro 7, in mind, the engine has been extensively revised to significantly improve combustion quality and exhaust gas values. Optimized exhaust turbochargers enhance responsiveness and agility, while an optimized exhaust system aims to heighten the emotional driving experience and dynamic feeling.

Key measures include the Miller combustion process combined with a high-tumble concept, which improves mixture formation and thermodynamic efficiency. A newly introduced ignition sequence, compared to the predecessor unit, ensures optimal cylinder equalization and reduced residual gas content, further contributing to the comfort demands in the premium segment. Additionally, internal engine modifications amplify the characteristic V8 sound and the overall sporty perception.
