Summary
“For all who keep the world moving” – this is the company purpose of Daimler Truck. Because trucks are the backbone of the global economy and society. For Daimler Truck, technology is a key enabler to serve customers worldwide and to help them make their business more successful. One key technology the company is working on is the propulsion system, which is undergoing a significant technology shift. Daimler Truck is fully committed to the Paris climate agreement and the company pursues a clear propulsion strategy: First, to keep conventional Diesel powertrain competitive as long as customers and markets benefit from it, while implementing a step-by-step ramp down of current activities. And, second, to pursue a dual-track-strategy for locally CO2-neutral drives with battery-electric and hydrogen-powered fuel cell solutions.
The ambition of Daimler Truck is to offer only new vehicles in Europe, Japan and North America that are locally CO2-neutral by 2039. Thus, the company is working on a full range of locally CO2-neutral series-production vehicles. However, it takes more than a truck to establish CO2-neutral trucks in the mass market. Aside from the right products, two things will be decisive: infra tructure and parity in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to today’s Diesel trucks.
