Summary

One in ten new vehicles registered in Europe in 2021 was a purely battery-electric vehicle (BEV). The market share of BEVs has thus nearly doubled within one year, while the entire vehicle market has shrunk. In 2030, one in two new vehicles in Europe will be a purely electric car. [1]

In addition to affordable acquisition and operating costs and a comfortable driving experience, sustainability and environmental protection are becoming more and more important factors for end customers when it comes to deciding on the type of powertrain. This is accelerating the transition toward sustainable growth for electric vehicles. Innovation, technical system expertise, and flexible, smart drive and charging solutions from Bosch are making an important contribution to this development.

Thanks to the technological progress in multiobjective optimization (MOO), artificial intelligence (AI), and in-house semiconductor technology, Bosch is working towards sustainable improvements in the electric powertrain. With MOO and AI, new electric motor designs are being developed that conserve raw materials and development resources and shorten development cycles. Furthermore, Bosch uses highly efficient semiconductor technologies (SiC MOSFETs) for its power electronics, which improve switching speed and power densities and enable lower losses compared to Si IGBTs. This reduces the costs of the high-voltage battery, or alternatively improves the vehicle’s range.

Bosch is setting the course for affordable, economical, and sustainable mobility – electromobility is getting ready for the mass market.
