Summary
The Chinese government has set a goal of peaking carbon by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2060. The hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine (ICE) is expected to play an important role after 2030.
To this end, FAW has developed a high efficiency zero-emission Miller cycle hydrogen engine based on a 2-liter dedicated hybrid gasoline engine called CA4GC. The engine adopts five dedicated hydrogen technologies: high compression ratio Miller cycle, ultra-lean mixture combustion system, high-pressure hydrogen direct injection system, efficient turbo- charging system and lean-burn after-treatment system. While achieving zero carbon emission and near zero NOX emission, the engine realized 42% BTE and 120kW rated power. This paper presents the development objectives, technical routes, combustion system design, engine design, test results and analysis.
