Summary

During the renewal of its complete petrol engines line-up BMW have, after the R4 and V8 engines, developed a completely new V12 engine for the 760i vehicle topping the new petrol engine generation. The classic and uncompromising 60° design has a displacement of 6 litres. For the first time worldwide it combines a fully variable valvetrain with a petrol direct injection. The BMW VALVETRONIC, well known from the 4 and 8 cylinder engines, is responsible for low throttle losses and efficient part load control. The petrol direct injection running homoge-neously improves the performance of the engine thanks to the internal mixture preparation. In addition this homogeneous combustion in combination with a 3-way catalyst enables the use of the engine in all markets regardless of fuel properties and it complies with the most stringent emission regulations worldwide. The combination of these two innovative technologies results in the most powerful and fuel efficient, naturally-aspirated engine in the luxury vehicle class.
