Summary

Plug-in hybrid vehicles place high demands in terms of cost and required space on the developers. The realisation of a simple parallel hybrid concept especially for front transverse mounting is often only possible through a strong limitation of the installable electric performance. Nevertheless, plug-in hybrids will be introduced into all vehicle classes due to the current and future CO₂ legislation. The manufacturers are therefore called to develop concepts which can be combined with various transmissions in a modular manner and have sufficient performance for various vehicle classes to offer the customer not only lower fuel consumption but also adequate added value with regards to performance and fun-to-drive.
