Summary

Porsche is committed to producing a synthetic fuel with maximum CO2 and emissions reductions and maximum blend capability.

Because when it comes to reducing the CO2 footprint in road traffic, we will make faster progress if we not only renew the vehicle fleet with electric vehicles, but also operate the passenger car fleet with so-called eFuels. By this we mean fuel produced with renewable energy.

With the "Haru Oni" pilot plant in Chile, Porsche and its partners will demonstrate in the course of 2022 how a green base fuel can be industrialized. We will initially use the fuel from the pilot phase in beacon projects such as the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and in the Porsche Experience Centers.

Methanol-to-gasoline (MtG) fuel offers a good basis for the introduction of synthetic fuels. Even with the current state of technology, the climate protection targets for 2030 proposed by the EU Commission in the "Fit for 55" set of measures could be achieved for the fuel.

To make the MtG fuel directly available, an upgrade to modify properties is necessary. Currently, blending components are still produced with fossil and bio-based feedstocks and the variety of production processes pose a challenge. Therefore, the overall proces needs to be simplified. Our goal is to create all blending components on a methanol base.
