Summary

Air pollution in European cities forces action to reduce the emissions. Especially for vehicles these are exhaust gas and noise emissions. One possible solution is the electrification of vehicles for emission free driving. In public transportation and municipal gods transport the use of battery electric vehicles (BEV) is a favorable option, because of the possibility to cover the needed daily mileage with charging concepts in combination with battery capacity.
The battery electric drive train, especially with the use of wheel hub motors, shows a significant reduction in complexity compared to a drive train with combustion engine. The ZAwheel^® by ZIEHL-ABEGG AUTOMOTIVE offers from one provider a complete, highly efficient gearless electric direct drive with wheel hub motor technology including control unit. The application of the drivetrain into the vehicle system is realized with the adaption of the CAN-Bus interface. The developed inverter is implemented internally in the wheel hub motor, which allows an optimal and flexible packaging in the vehicle at high power and safety.
The high efficiency of the powertrain results of the combination of the physical efficiency advantage of the direct drive with the adjusted design and control of motor, inverter and drivetrain control.
