Summary

For more than a century, crude oil has been the primary source for petrol and diesel fuel, guaranteeing our mobility. For a long time, the availability and the range of coverage of fossil fuels were the main focus of discussions, while today topics such as supply reliability and environmental protection are becoming increasingly important. In this context, BP publishes the “Statistical Review of World Energy” each year, a study regarding the statistics of the key sources of energy including crude oil, natural gas, coal, and non-fossil energy sources, which is widely recognised by experts. The annual study is supplemented with the BP “World Energy Outlook 2030”, outlining long-term trends in the energy sector. Expectation is that the absolute numbers of global crude oil consumption continue to rise; its relative percentage in comparison with other energy sources is steadily decreasing.
