Summary
Thermal propagation requirements pose major challenges for current battery developments and require new technical solutions. This is partly due to the fact that many battery developments introduce a cell update in order to increase the range or reduce the costs with current cell chemistries. This usually goes hand in hand with much more aggressive cell behavior in the case of thermal runaway: here, typically more gases and particles are emitted than with previous cell chemistries resulting in an extended damage pattern in the batteries.
This presentation will also examine new and future cell technologies and determine their impact on thermal propagation behavior. Particular attention will be paid to the extent to which thermal management measures are suitable for fast charging in order to also improve the thermal behavior in the thermal runway case.
