Summary
To reduce CO2 emissions in a sustainable, affordable and attractive way for customers requires an even stronger cross-linking between engine, transmission, hybridization and vehicle on the one hand during layout and development, but on the other hand also in real customer use.
Already the internal combustion engine 4.x considers the total system during layout. The powertrain 4.x takes one step further and considers additionally the vehicle conditions (customer benefits defined by attributes like drivability, performance and consumption as well as boundary conditions like vehicle application, packaging and interfaces to other vehicle systems) during the layout of the powertrain.
The key question is: “which combination of component technologies leads to which CO2 reduction at which cost and at which customer benefit?”
During operation, the ICE 4.x already uses a huge amount of vehicle relevant environmental data for its energy management. This total system optimization can be significantly extended by furthermore optimized operation strategies during the complex calibration of vehicle and powertrain characteristics.
It also needs to be considered that especially in new market and customer segments, a shift of purchase relevant customer criteria from performance oriented towards comfort and utility value driven parameters including infotainment can occur.
Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
