Summary

The renewal of a truck fleet poses major challenges for logistics companies. The criteria for the conversion range from the fulfillment of CO2 reduction requirements and the associated ESG criteria to a technical risk and opportunity analysis. In addition, acquisition decisions must be backed up by a TCO evaluation. The complexity of the project is influenced by disruptively changing vehicle acquisition costs, difficulty to predict energy cost developments and supply scenarios and also by highly volatile framework conditions such as toll costs, tax laws, GHG regulation and subsidy guidelines. In the presentation, a temporal dynamic computational model based on a CTQ and TCO analysis (optimization procedure according to main technical and economic levers) is presented. The period under consideration for the optimization model extends from 2022 to 2030 and considers the current market disruptions due to supply shortages and energy cost volatility. As a result, decision-maker matrices are created with which the technical (CTQ) and managerial (TCO) frameworks for short- and long-term truck and energy supply station acquisitions can be planned.
