Summary

The storage of waste heat of internal combustion engines and utilisation at the next cold start to minimise the warm-up period is a reasonable measure to reduce the fuel consumption of cars. With the exception of sporadic series productions so far no wide application has been established. The reasons therefore are the difficult placing in the vehicle, the low storage density as well as the losses at long parking duration. Up to now realized storage systems are based on the thermal isolation of a storage medium. Occasionally the phase change of a storage material is additionally used.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
