Summary
In order to counter global warming, there is a strong need to reduce CO2 emissions from automobiles, and while BEVs are an effective means of reducing CO2 emissions, there are challenges to overcome in order to convert all vehicles to BEVs, such as development of charging infrastructure. We think that PHEVs are one way to reduce CO2 emissions as soon as possible under the circumstances that global warming control cannot wait.
We have newly developed a PHEV system for the C-HR. Based on the powertrain of the C-HR HEV, the traction battery for the PHEV have been newly developed to maximize battery power by adopting a double boosting system for the PCU and increasing the output of the motor to achieve the high EV power that is to PHEVs. Furthermore, the battery pack is mounted under the floor, and the DCDC converter is integrated into the PCU.
In addition Toyota's first geofencing function, including battery energy management has been developed to maximize EV driving in the LEZ (Low Emission Zone).
