Summary

The limited availability of fossil fuels and the steady increase in energy consumption, as well as increasing environmental pollution caused by emissions will lead to an increased demand for sustainable biofuels. As part of the Cluster of Excellence "Tailor-made fuels from biomass," an interdisciplinary approach is used to research the best possible fuel/combustion system combination. As a first step, the optimum fuel properties, such as a reduced cetane number or an increased oxygen content, for future partially homogeneous low-temperature combustion systems have to be identified...
