Summary
This paper describes the tuning and subsequent integration of direct injection Gasoline engines, using the 1.8L Duratec SCi-engine as an example.
Besides the SCi-engine, the after treatment system and the transmission are also described briefly. The fuel consumption and emission characteristics of the vehicle, as well as the performance, are analysed. Other important attributes that are relevant for the customer, such as launch, transient response and noise behaviour are discussed and the particular technical solutions are presented. The 1.8L Mondeo SCi offers an attractive package for the customer, in which low fuel consumption, driving dynamics and comfort are combined without compromising other attributes. Therewith it is assured that the SCi-concept is separating clearly with regard to comfort and NVH from Diesel Engines and thus is justifying an own market position.
Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
Members of the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers have access to all lectures of the International Vienna Motor Symposia.
